Abstract
In the present contribution, Mandaeism is not rigidly classified as either monotheistic or polytheistic. Rather, it is considered as a religious system characterized by a unique and transcendent supreme principle, accompanied by a hierarchical multiplicity of cosmic and salvific entities whose function is not cultic in an autonomous sense, but soteriological and cosmological. The analysis therefore privileges the ontological structure of the Mandaean system over the mere enumeration of divine figures.
