Abstract
In Hobbesian theory, the authorization is essential for understanding the concepts of representation and sovereignty; it therefore supports the structure of the state. This essay will explain what it consists of and why it anticipates certain reflections of twentieth-century analytical jurisprudence and, even earlier, Hegel’s theme of recognition.
