The article addresses the multifaceted and dynamic cultural climate of the university town of Heidelberg at the beginning of the 20th century, focusing in particular on the reflections of György Lukács, who arrived there from Budapest with a rich intellectual background centered on pacifism and a supranational spiritual dimension. The lively discussions within the Heidelberg circle were abruptly interrupted by the outbreak of World War I, as opposing positions regarding the conflict began to emerge.
