Abstract

The STASI, the DDR’s secret police, created an oppressive regime maybe more than the KGB in USSR. After rummaged its archives, Philip Oltermann published a book that underlines the relationship between STASI and poetry. At the beginning of the 80’s, it was not enough to control the mails, but it was necessary to “possess” art, so enter poetic mechanisms and master the language became important to counteract dissidence. However, as they immersed themselves in poetry, many agents began to question the regime ideology and express same doubts. So, it is also told in the film Das Leben der Anderen, by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Wiesler, a STASI agent, penetrates in life of a playwright by wiretapping and recording every step. Being in close contact with poetry and music, he begins to have doubts about the regime and he saves the writer. Suspected but without evidence, the agent is relegated to an anonymous office. After the fall of Berlin Wall in 1989, the writer finds out who was the agent who saved him and dedicates him a book entitled Sonate vom guten Menschen.
