This paper offers a reading of the relationship between habit and autonomy through Paul Ricoeur’s model of triple mimesis. The thesis is dialectical: habit and autonomy are held together in a productive tension that remains permanently open. Neither opposing terms nor a stable hierarchy, but co-constitutive dimensions of the subject. Through the three mimetic stages – prefiguration, configuration and refiguration – the paper examines this structure at several distinct levels: corporeal, narrative and political.
