Abstract

This interview presents the contributions made by F. Baldini to the Freudian project of psychoanalysis as a science of nature which he has fully incorporated. Baldini’s most significant
contribution, as on this rests the basis for the scientific nature of psychoanalysis, has been to rehabilitate the experimental method of intra clinical control of the etiological hypotheses devised in the context of analysis and which Freud himself employed. For Baldini, and also for Freud, treatment is above all seen as an experiment in which the truth or not of a hypothesis must be evaluated. In fact, a hypothesis cannot be verified before the beginning of the single treatments, and in separated experimental contexts, as practised in the extra clinical method in medicine, instead it should be verified during the course of a treatment which is a cognitive process rather than a medical one. Such characteristics confer on psychoanalysis a potential status of non-medical therapy, which exists already in many advanced countries according to the distinction made by Baldini between «knowledge oriented» therapies (non-medical) and «wellness oriented» therapies (medical). Furthermore, Baldini has highlighted the neo-transcendentalist gnoseological structure of Freudian metapsychology, and he is currently developing a project for the formalization of Freudian metapsychology, mathematically elaborated by G. Lami, which is also opening prospects for its use in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The interview then addresses significant ethical matters, issues of freedom in analysis and the understanding that psychoanalysis, as understood, enables complex social phenomena.
