The semiotic and philosophical issue of taste

Abstract

In many modern cultures there are terms that indicate the faculty of judgment in the fields of art, fashion, consumer objects, which derive from terms used for the sense that evaluates the physical-chemical properties of the objects introduced into the mouth. Thus the Italian and Spanish "gusto", the French "gout" the English "taste", the Hebrew "taim", the German "Geschmack", the Russian "vkus". Often these terms are also linked to an idea of ​​pleasure and consumption as in the neo-Latin languages. It is a complex terminology, in which it is necessary to distinguish an active side (someone tastes something) from a reflective side (something tastes like, tastes like), that languages they differentiate variously. We must also notice a connection with knowledge.
