Enunciation and gestures. Communicating by images

  • Moira De Iaco

Abstract

This paper will focus on the power of gestures to enunciate creating images. Gesture are a constitutive part of human communication: they can determine and organize cognitive functions such as thinking, memory and learning by visual schemas; they can prepare and improve the use of words. The representational function of gestures will be analysed to argue that iconicity and metaphoricity are properties thanks to which all gestures, with varying degrees, communicate through images.
