Navigating Cultural and Communicative Divides in a Globalised World. Family History as a Transcultural Paradigm

Abstract

As transcultural systemic therapists, working with migrant families, we have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of linguistic and cultural barriers on parental capability, often leading to misinterpretations and systemic injustices due to cultural stupidity (bêtise) and consequent hidden discrimination by the health care and social institutions. To describe our multiple experiences in this process of discrimination, we will share with the reader of this essay a clinical series of ‘The Indian Family’ that illuminates the complexities of this issue.
