Abstract

This paper aims to solve one of the most cryptic symbols in Leopardi’s writings: the reference to a “boa constrictor” related to a deity named Arimane, god of evil in Persian mythology to which Leopardi wrote a hymn. Indeed, the themes laying under the surface of Ad Arimane seem to be more than a mere pessimistic ode to anything evil, but one can read a deeper awareness of how myth is related to nature.
