André Tosel on Spinoza’s materialism

Abstract

This article examines André Tosel’s account of Spinoza’s philosophical materialism. By engaging with problems laid out by recent commentators in the scholarship surrounding Marxism and Spinozism, I attempt to show the difficulties in bringing together Spinoza and Marx. In so doing, I endeavor to give an account of Tosel’s understanding of these difficulties and possible solutions in his work.
