Abstract
From the father as an agent of subjugation to the father as an instrument of emancipation.
An analysis of Freud’s The Taboo of Virginity. The article explores the taboo of virginity, drawing on Freud’s theoretical framework and developing a series of corollaries aimed at highlighting the complexity and structural significance of this symbolic prohibition. It further proposes an interpretative perspective on the paternal function, emphasizing how the father’s role is central to elucidating the enigma of the taboo and rendering its resolution conceivable, thereby creating a space for subjective elaboration and the potential for genuine female emancipation.
