On the Sense of Touch: Interview with Virgilio Sieni

Abstract

The Sul Toccare project (9–13 December 2024) provided
the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce with a significant opportunity to explore
the intersection between the language of gesture and that of the visual arts.
Through the presence of Maestro Virgilio Sieni, the academic community
and the students underwent an intense educational experience, in which the
body became a place of knowledge, listening and connection.
The following interview stems from a desire to convey the essence of this
experience, reflecting together with Maestro Sieni on the value of touch as
an aesthetic, ethical and formative act, and on the way in which gesture can become
a tool for learning, sharing and transformation.
