Abstract

I.Con. International Journal of Theory and Practice of the Image is conceived as a critical space of intersection among disciplines, languages, and temporalities, bringing together theoretical research, artistic practices, and historical inquiry. The first issue, “Origins and Destinies of the Image,” explores the image as a dynamic field where knowledge, technology, desire, and power converge, and as an unstable threshold between visibility and invisibility, document and phantom.

A key focus is the historical-critical dimension of images in moments of crisis and reinvention. The contributions show how scientific and technological developments have not only produced disenchantment, but also new forms of re-enchantment, as exemplified by photography’s ambiguous role between science and the visualization of the invisible. This perspective is complemented by reflections on movement, pathos, and the survival of images.

The issue also addresses contemporary digital practices, examining the body as a political and technological interface within algorithmic environments. The digital and mutant body emerge as sites of both normativity and resistance.

Overall, the volume presents the image as an active force that shapes perception, communities, and imaginaries, positioning the journal as a living archive of critical and artistic experimentation.
