Abstract

Any reflection on the semiotic method shows first of all that the problems surrounding the concept are more than one. Many reflections move in various ways from the Hjelmslevian glossematics, from its transfusion into a series of entries in the '79 Dictionary and from Fabbri's proposal to work on the "missing links" between four levels of the discipline, one "empirical", one "methodological" , one "theoretical" and one "epistemological". Fabbri's synthesis perhaps overcomes some problems of Hjelsmlev's inheritance in Greimas's thought: in this paper we will move on by discussing the concept of analysis and that of description as superimposable to the idea of "classes of ordered operations".
