Some Risks of Interpreting the Present Crisis as a Future Opportunity

Abstract

According to the old saying every crisis is an opportunity, and the bigger the crisis, the bigger the opportunity. In this paper I claim that this usually positive attitude has, in the context of the current pandemic, become a trap. Hypernormativity and social distancing, if assumed, together with an exclusive focus on a very narrow conception of health, as the standard response to aleatory events that pose a risk to life, bring with them a loss of meaning that is not likely to establish a future better world.
