Abstract
This text addresses the political evolution of Emilia during the nineteenth century, from the experience of volunteering in arms of the Garibaldinians to the first traces of the spread of the ideals of the International, with a focus on the so-called “mills uprising” and the echoes of the experience of the Paris Commune. The latter proved to be fundamental for the beginning of a subsequent phase of political organization that was more defined from an ideological point of view. In this way, we wish to make a first contribution on Emilia to the studies on the geographies of Risorgimento and internationalist federalism, developing a regional case that is particularly significant.
