Abstract

A retrospective foray into the work of Philippe Forest from L’oblio to Tutti i bambini tranne uno. An investigation into the reasons of writing beginning from the relationship between fiction and memoir. At the center of his narration is an exploration of the sense of loss, and the question of how and why to continue to live after trauma. Forest has never stopped telling his story of pain and struggle, his terrible story of the lost child. And starting from his first extreme autobiography, he has approached a novel, L’oblio, on the value of the memory of those who survive. If I remember, how do I manage to live? If I forget, can my life have any meaning? Nothing remains but to hide the memory inside forgetting, to protect it from pain, from guilt, from the inevitable falsification of the story.
