Abstract

The paper is about Theodor W. Adorno’s dreams, which he wanted to publish and which he wrote down when he woke up for over thirty years. The article aims to connect the language of dreams with Adorno’s view of language and its contradictions. It looks at Theodor Adorno’s close relationship and distance from Sigmund Freud. While Theodor Adorno criticises the possibility of “interpreting” dreams, the Freudian “drive” becomes central to ethical theories of freedom. Dreams should not be interpreted, but transcribed. This brings to the forefront the concept of mimesis, which can help us get nearer to the world of dreams.
