Abstract

In 1933, the Parini High School in Milan (Liceo Classico Parini di Milano) moved from its original location in Via Fatebenefratelli, shared with the Convitto Longone, to a new building specifically built in Via Goito. Through research into documents in the Historical Archives of the same High School and in other Archives open to public, it was possible to identify the complex process that led to assessing the need for a new building for the exclusive use of the High School, but nevertheless in the same Brera district. Research has been carried out on the motivation leading to the construction of the new building on the land made available to the Municipality by the demolition of the former Ricovero per gli Inabili al Lavoro, which in turn was established from 1815 to 1929 in the remains of the northern cloister of the Convent of San Marco. The contributions of three designers – Eng. Umberto Massari, Eng. Amerigo Belloni and Arch. Renzo Gerla – was also investigated, as far as possible. Arch. Renzo Gerla was not declared in the report of the time, but he was recognized thanks to a list of his works owned by a professional photographer.
