Newly (re)discovered texts by Etty Hillesum

Abstract

The publication of Het verzameld werk (The collected works) of Etty Hillesum gives the impression that it contains all Hillesum’s writings, i.e. diaries and letters, including letters written to her. This is not the case. The article offers an overview of writings that also originate from Hillesum’s pen but have not become included in Het verzameld werk (2021, 7th edition). These texts concern letters, a series of citations and material related to psychochirology, the method of hand-reading Hillesum had been learning from Julius Spier. Studying this material provides additional, and sometimes interesting, new insights into Hillesum’s life. It also opens up a new perspective for further Hillesum researches.
