Abstract

In today’s context of ecological and digital transition, urban spaces are emerging as critical arenas for the material and symbolic construction of alternatives to the prevailing social order. Cities, in fact, can serve as laboratories for experimenting with new – at times radical – models of cohabitation, co-production, and shared governance, through collective inquiry practices and digital innovations that help structure and interconnect public and social space. By integrating participatory practices, citizen science, and digital tools, can we truly envision the emergence of local networks capable of responding to the challenges of the Twin Transition, while also fostering solidarity and cooperation among citizens, enterprises, and institutions? This contribution aims to explore – through the multiple contradictions embedded in the urban fabric – whether and how the Twin Transition can find practical expression in public and urban spaces, transforming them into sites for imagining and enacting sustainable, collective futures.
