Abstract

This text examines the possibility of attributing creativity to artificial intelligence, beginning with Chomsky’s critiques and a comparison between classical AI and contemporary systems based on deep learning. Through examples drawn from chess, mathematics, art, and poetry, the article argues that AI cannot be considered creative in the fully human sense of the term, as it lacks consciousness, intentionality, and subjective experience. Nevertheless, its outputs display significant forms of combinatorial and exploratory creativity, capable of producing original, surprising, and sometimes aesthetically compelling results. What emerges is a theoretical paradox: AI can generate creations without being, in the strict sense, a creator.
