Abstract

The paper proposes a reading of the Adorno’s notion of mimesis, which rotates around the exploration of the nexus “shudder-image”. Assuming as a special point of reference the reflection that Adorno develops in the Aesthetic Theory¸ the inquiry is particularly focused on three fundamental theoretical-problematic knots: the idea of mimesis as the pre-condition of the “aesthetic behavior”; the possibility of re-understanding the mimesis as a “between”: as a threshold swinging between “repetition” and “difference”, i.e. between identity and alterity; the question of the relationship between “expression” (“nature”) and “construction” (tèchne). Therefore, what emerges is an idea of work of art as an exemplary exhibition of that statute of “threshold” that, more in general, could be ascribed to the idea of mimesis.
